The Engagement Story

Me and Scottie decided it was finally the day to ring shop.  I have known my whole life that I wanted an antique wedding ring.  I see beautiful wedding rings everywhere I go, but there is just something about the antiques that I love so much.  We decided to start searching close to home.  We started (and finished) at Cat's Cradle Antiques in Provo.  We walked in and started searching.  I could spend hours in these places. So much to look at.  Nothing really caught my eye. The woman working there asked if we were looking for anything in particular, and when we mentioned an engagement ring she got all excited. She took us to the counter and pulled out a few boxes full of different rings. Still nothing really excited me.  Then she pulled out another box and said "okay, this is the 'wow' box, sometimes I don't even show people these rings just for their sake!" After hearing that of course I wanted to see what was inside.  Immediately my ring caught my eye. A gold band with a dark blue, untouched saphire and tiny diamonds surrounding it, and over 100 years old.  I put it on and knew I was not going to find anything I wanted more! They were so sweet and offered us an amazing deal. We put the ring on a 24 hour hold and decided to go look at a normal Jewler too just to compare what we found.  Nothing compared.

The next day I started to get worried that Scottie would forget to go pick it up, but didn't want to be a nag.  The lady in the Antique Store told us they had just barely got that ring in and that we should hurry back because they sell out super quick.  So we had no time to waste.  I was trying to let things be a surprise so I didn't say anything to Scottie.  A few days later he called me at work and told me he had some good news and some bad news. Bad news: he didn't make it in in-time and my ring was gone.  He was so sorry, but the good news was that he had found a site to design your own and HE was going to design my ring.  I did not like this idea at all. Although Scottie has great taste, this was my wedding ring and I just wanted the one I picked out! I was hesitant to believe him because he pulls this kind of thing all the time.  So I didn't really accept the fact that it was gone.

About a week later me and Scottie went on a canyoneering trip to Zions with a few of our married friends.  We repeled off a 300 foot cliff and hiked through an amazing canyon.  I thought for sure this would be it. I was going to come back engaged! 12 hours later we come out at the end of the canyon and nothing had happened.  I was so bummed.  Made the journey back home and still nothing.  I was getting so impatient.  I thought for sure he had my ring.  The next day I brought up my feelings on everything and told him that I was getting so anxious and that everywhere we went a proposal was all I could think of.  I also told him that I knew he was lying about the ring.  He got a super sad look on his face and just told me that he felt so bad that he had let me down.  He really was too late for the ring but was doing his best to make me happy. And that if I must know, the ring he designed would be here in a week. So I could chill. After that I just felt like the biggest brat in the world and decided I needed to just be happy with the situation.  He was designing my ring and I was PRAYING he'd do a good job.  Since I was so sad before and actually CRIED, he told me he wanted to take me out for an apology dinner.  We'd dress up nice and go out for Sushi at my fav place; Shoga.

Thursday rolled around and I honestly didnt think a thing of it.  He was just being a good boyfriend right? He "had to stay late at work" so we got off to a late start.  We had a way yummy dinner and then the plan was just to hang out for a few hours and then go hang out with some of his buddies from work.  We started driving to Barnes & Noble to mayble look at a few books in the mean time.  Until his friend Connor called..  He said that a bunch of people were getting together at a cabin in Midway to play games.  Scottie told him we already had plans, but that he'd ask me if I'd rather go to the cabin.  Miraculesly I chose the cabin. (what if I hadn't!?) We started making the drive up, but of course had to stop and get treats. (I have a major sweet tooth) We get to the cabin and no one was there yet... obviously. We were sitting on the porch waiting and I still was oblivious.  We noticed there was a lock combo on the front door and he was like "hey what would you give me if I could guess the code and get in?" I kind of ignored this until i heard the door unlock.  Even STILL I was just like "wow! good job!" I swung open the door and there were rose petals everywhere. I immediately closed the door again and started freaking out.  I had NO idea this was happening and I didn't know what to do with myself. I finally got the courage to open the door again and follow the trail of roses up the stairs.  It led to a bouquet of white roses (my fav) and a handwritten card.  I started to read it and thought I was going to melt.  The whole time he was hugging me from behind and his heart was pounding out of his chest.  So adorable.  I get to the the last sentence and it read "and now I have something to ask you..." I turned around to him on his knee, ring box open, with my beatiful antique ring! Everything was perfect.  I was too happy to even cry.  We kissed and hugged and all that mushy stuff and made our way downstairs to build a fire and eat our treats.  It was seriously the most perfect night.  I definitely found a keeper.
