Scottie Harvey Wilson
I guess starting a blog is the thing to do once you get engaged...so I decided to give it a try! Bear with me, I honestly have no idea what I'm doing...
As you all probably know by now, I'm engaged! I just wanted to share a little bit of me and Scottie's dating story and background.
Me and Scottie met a few summers ago on the 3rd of July at the 711. (romantic right?) There were hundreds of people out and we just happened to run into each other and start talking. Scottie was friends with my older sister Shelley, and she had mentioned to him that she wanted to set him up with me. (smart sister) As most of you know, I resemble all of my sisters quite a bit, Shelley especially. So he recognized me and we had a little chat. It's kind of funny because I had a friend on a mission at the time that started writing me really strange/too serious letters that I couldn't handle. So I joked about sending a fake wedding announcement to take care of the problem. (immature I know) and Shelley was going to set it up for Scottie to be my "fiance." Who knew that 3 years later we'd really be engaged!
We exchanged numbers that night, but we were both on the verge of getting into relationships with other people. So not much came of it. I dated a boy for about a year and then broke up with him because I felt so young, and wanted to date around. Me and Scottie went on 3 or 4 dates and then ended up getting back together with our ex's. About 7 months later I sent my boyfriend on a mission. I was convinced that I'd marry him when he got home. We had everything all planned out. Wedding, house, rings, etc. Everyone warned me that things change over 2 years but I was convinced my situation was different. 3 months after he left, Scottie randomly messaged me. We caught up and decided to hang out just as friends... That didn't happen! We ended up kissing the very first night hanging out and things just moved in a good direction after that! A few weeks later we had the official DTR talk and decided to date exclusively. During all of this I kept feeling so torn. I had promised my whole life away to someone else but was falling in love with Scottie so fast. I was scared of what to do. We had a wonderful relationship. A few bumps, just like everyone, but overall I couldn't have imagined it any better. He was perfect for me.
We started talking about marriage and now it was real. I needed to make a decision and move on from the past to better things. We ended up taking a little break for me to gather my feelings and just pray about things to make sure this was right. I was gone for 3 weeks with my family on vacation so I had a LOT of free time to think about how I wanted my life to play out. I knew I had to have Scottie in it. I have never met someone who treated me so perfect in every way. He literally would do anything for me and the love we have for each other is just indescribable.
I got home and wrote off the missionary. I was expecting this to be a huge emotional ordeal, but honestly it was easy! I was so excited for this next chapter in my life and just felt extremely peaceful about it all. Me and Scottie got back together and things were a million times better than they even were before! We both knew that we were making the right decision and were so excited to spend eternity with each other. I love him so much and I honestly don't have a worry in my mind at this point. I know for a fact that people are placed in our lives for a reason. I can't imagine my life without him. He makes me laugh like no one else can, and we can just be so goofy and ourselves around each other. I've learned so many valuable lessons this past year and can't wait for the years to come. :)
